With higher education set to be one of the hot election topics we are pleased to announce our morning plenary will hear from Emran Mian, Director of the Social Market Foundation. Formerly a civil servant Emran’s previous roles included Secretary to the Browne Review of Higher Education Funding and Director of Strategy at the Department for Business.

The University of Hertfordshire is the UK’s leading business-facing university and an exemplar in the sector. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses to a student body of more than 24,000, from over 85 countries.
We took a look at the how things have changed for The University of Hertfordshire since becoming a Hobsons’ CRM partner in 2008.

We packed a lot into the Hobsons’ schedule for EAIE 2014, in addition to exhibiting, demonstrating our new Student Lifecycle Management solution Radius, running workshops on “What Do International Students Really Want?” and hosting the M&R reception, we also had a chance to talk with some of our 5,000 fellow delegates and take in some of the sessions.
Our universities are respected worldwide. Four of our universities are in the global top ten. As such, Higher Education is a major export market for the UK, with hundreds and thousands of students from across the globe applying to and attending British Universities each year. It is estimated that international students contribute £14 billion to the UK economy.
But, after a 29-year period of a sustained rise in the number of international students registered on full-time programmes at Higher Education institutions, in 2012-13 the UK saw a drop in the number of international applicants. In particular, 2012-13 saw a decline in applicants from within the EU and from the Indian subcontinent.
In order to understand this change, we surveyed 18,393 students from over 195 countries.
